HEAD WRESTLING COACH KEVIN CARTER
A former College All-American, a 21-year wrestling coach and mentor of 12 state champions, along with 30 high school and college All-Americans, Carter comes to Apex Friendship with a long career in coaching wrestling. Coach Carter was the former Head Coach of Lyon College where his team placed 14th in the nation with 2 All-American’s. Before Carter got to Lyon, he won the NCWA College National Team Wrestling Championships at the University of Nevada, Reno. Carter was voted the NCWA National College Coach of the Year during this time. A successful High School Head Coach, Carter came from Wakeland High School in Frisco, Texas where he led the Wolverines’ boys squad to a seventh-place finish at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Texas State Championships in 2013, along with the District 16-4A title, in 2008-09. In addition, Carter led the Damonte Ranch Mustangs to numerous top 5 State finishes, including a 2nd place state finish in 2008. Carter was named the Nevada State Coach of the Year during that time. During his career, Carter has coached 11 state champions, two USA National Cadet Champions, one University USA National Champion, four FILA Cadet placers, four NCWA collegiate National Champions, eight California JUCO State Finalists, 27 high school athletes who placed at state competitions and more than two dozen high school and collegiate All-Americans. Carter was also the Head Nevada USA Freestyle Coach for numerous years, taking teams to the USA Junior and Cadet Duals, as well as the Asics National Championships in Fargo, North Dakota. Carter has also taken 5 teams overseas to compete in international competitions while working for People to People Sports Programs. Carter was a Nevada State Champion wrestling in high school and a four-year starter at Sierra College and Southern Oregon University (NAIA). He earned All-American honors at SOU. A graduate of Southern Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Arts in History (1997), Carter received his Masters Degree in Educational Administration at the University of Nevada-Reno in 2003. Coach Carter is entering his 19th year of teaching and 21 year of coaching.
